Raised in the Cypress Hills of Saskatchewan, Doris Bircham is known for many roles, including nurse, mother, wife, mentor, poet, organizer, and volunteer. She is known as a writer for her role as a mentor, not only to new poets, but also with volunteers within her community. She has been very active in organizing the Maple Creek Cowboy Poetry Gathering for many years. Doris Bircham has traveled throughout Canada and the US, representing Maple Creek and Saskatchewan with her poetry. She is also a founding member of the local writers' group, Writers Unlimited, and uses her talents in a variety of fundraisers to raise money or profile for local groups and charities. Doris makes her home in the Cypress Hills area and has been a "hands on" ranching partner for the past 43 years.
